Sulfonation Reaction Mechanism
Sulfur trioxide (SO₃) reacts with organic feedstock in a membrane reactor through gas-liquid phase reaction. SO₃ molecules undergo electrophilic substitution with feedstock molecules at the liquid film surface to produce sulfonic acid products. Reaction formula: R-H + SO₃ → R-SO₃H (Alkylbenzene / Olefin / Fatty Acid Methyl Ester + Sulfur Trioxide → Sulfonic Acid Product)
